چکیده

The geometry and kinematics of rifts are strongly controlled by pre-existing structures that may be present in both the crust and the mantle lithosphere. In the Gulf of Aden, the Tertiary oblique rift developed through inherited Mesozoic extensional basins that trend orthogonal to the direction of Oligo-Miocene divergence. Such inheritance may produce lateral variations in crustal thickness and thus in rheology of the crust and mantle lithosphere. How can such variations influence the present-day geometry of oblique rifts? May they locally overcome the impact of the oblique rheological weaknesses that in ha l-0 08 47 14 5, v er si on 1 22 J ul 2 01 3 Author manuscript, published in "Tectonophysics in press (2013) 1" DOI : 10.1016/j.tecto.2013.05.041

The rift to break-up evolution of the Gulf of Aden: Insights from 3D numerical lithospheric-scale modelling

The Gulf of Aden displays an ideal setting to study oblique rift processes since numerous structural data are available onshore and offshore, down to the ocean-continent transition (OCT). We investigate key observations by means of 3D numerical thermo-mechanical experiments on lithospheric scale. The Gulf formed with a rift-normal of -15° azimuth and under the influence of a supposedly 25° tren...

Evolution of the margin of the Gulf of California near Loreto, Baja California Peninsula, Mexico

The Gulf of California is a prime example of a young oblique-divergent plate boundary. This type of plate boundary is much less well understood than classic rifts and passive margins in divergent plate settings. A complexity in the Gulf of California is that the modern oblique rifting was preceded by a stage of orthogonal rifting. We have used extensive mapping as well as stratigraphic, geomorp...

Nanomedicine for tuberculosis: Insights from animal models

Patient noncompliance to current tuberculosis (TB) therapy owing to multidrug administration daily leads to treatment failure and emergence of multidrug resistant and extensively drug resistant TB. To avoid the daily dosing, application of nanotechnology is the only viable solution by virtue of sustained release of drugs. Other potential advantages of the system include the possibility of selec...
